The COVID pandemic has shown a spotlight on the huge obstacle for healthcare providers in managing patients with chronic illnesses, such as diabetes. This crisis has made it difficult for caregivers to monitor diabetic patients regularly, who are now compelled to adhere to self-care practices from the confines of their homes. Apart from diabetes management, they also need to address continued requirements, such as their diet checks and recording their blood glucose levels daily, to avert long-term complications. During this unprecedented time, it is essential to have robust and reliable healthcare monitoring tools that allow adequate communication between patients, clinicians and caregivers.

At the forefront of helping healthcare providers and patients with real-time and reliable diabetes management solutions is Smart Meter. The company’s innovative Cellular Enabled iGlucose® System enables physicians to remotely and proactively manage diabetes patients between visits while ensuring a more personalized and cost-effective care plan. It also fosters seamless connectivity and communication between patients and caregivers to improve the entire care journey. “Our diabetes management system is designed to help healthcare providers manage and monitor patients remotely, and thereby helping improve outcomes,” states Brahim Zabeli, the CEO at Smart Meter.

The iGlucose System’s cellular connectivity allows for immediate transmission of blood glucose data after conducting the test, to the cloud, and to a web-based platform accessible by healthcare providers. This innovative product offers the best connectivity by utilizing AT&Ts 4G/5G LTE cellular network and the latest CAT-M technology, equipping these small devices to send data to other platforms via API integration without human intervention. Real-time connectivity provides clinicians complete visibility into the patients’ readings while allowing them to intervene in the patient’s care journey and offer positive coaching.
Clinicians can make adjustments and recommendations based on changes in blood glucose levels. Special critical out of range results can also be set so that clinicians are alerted of patients falling outside of that range. This leading transmission technology further enables a smooth remote patient monitoring experience between visits by delivering immediate, accurate and reliable information to physicians.

Our diabetes management system is designed to help healthcare providers manage and monitor the diabetic patients remotely, and thereby improve the overall patient outcomes

Additionally, the iGlucose System can automatically set the time and date on the iGlucose Meter, ensuring all the information is accurate in terms of the timescale. The patients can choose to set up their own personal portal, the iGlucose Personal Web Portal, to view their logbooks, graphs, and charts. This dashboard can promote awareness to engage other caregivers in the patient’s care journey via designating a circle of care. This extended circle of care may improve their overall outcomes and reduce their risks proactively. Another critical component of the iGlucose System is the iGlucose virtual coach which engages and motivates a patient to continue along their diabetes care management program. The virtual coach can be set to send reminders, encouraging messages and tips improving utilization. It also allows caregivers, designated by the patient to receive similar messages when the patient is testing and information about their blood glucose results.

With a vision of seamless transmission of data to healthcare providers from patients’ devices, Smart Meter has been strongly focused on improving diabetes management and enabling remote patient monitoring, which has significantly surged during the COVID-19 situation. The company will be expanding its outreach to several other chronic conditions with seamless cellular transmission of healthcare data to caregivers and clinicians effectively. “With a profound revolution in remote monitoring and management of patients with chronic diseases, our company is at the frontline of enabling proactive management of diabetes through our innovative solution,” concludes Zabeli.
